"Absturz im Kinzigtal" ist ein Buch zur Heimatgeschichte und eine Dokumentation des Luftkrieges im hessischen Kinzigtal sowie benachbarten Landkreisen. Es berichtet über die ersten Flugbewegungen der unterschiedlichsten Fluggeräte ab dem Jahre 1895, über den Aufbau und Untergang der Militärluftfahrt sowie über das Schicksal der entsprechenden aeronautischen Einrichtung nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. Es beschreibt in lebendiger Weise – durch Augenzeugenberichte und viele bisher nicht veröffentlichte Fotos unterstützt – die freudigen und leidvollen Erfahrungen der Kinzigtaler in den ersten 55 Jahren der Luftfahrt. Das Buch beschreibt die Flugversuche der ersten Ballonfahrer und das Auftauchen der Zeppelin-Luftschiffe über dem Kinzigtal sowie die ersten Flugaktivitäten der Kinzigtaler. Außerdem erklärt der Autor ausführlich den Luftkrieg über dem Kinzigtal, die Zerstörung der Städte Hanau und Frankfurt am Main sowie viele damit verbundene Flugzeugabstürze. Zentrale Themen der Militärluftfahrt im Kinzigtal sind der "Fliegerhorst Gelnhausen" in Rothenbergen, der Bombenabwurfplatz Orb sowie das "Schwere Funkfeuer Otto" in Rothenbergen. Der Autor

Eckard Sauer ist 1947 in Gründau/Lieblos geboren - inmitten des hessischen Kinzigtals, dessen Luftfahrthistorie er in 15-jähriger Recherchearbeit erforscht und in seinem Buch "Absturz im Kinzigtal" nun dokumentiert hat.
